So, I was thinking about how women tend to not hold the majority of leadership and executive positions in the America of 2012. In fact, only about 15% of executive positions are held by woen today, and that percentage has been pretty stagnant for the past three years.
I figured that to have an executive position in a workplace, it must be helpful to have a college degree. I then searched for some information concerning female vs. male graduation rates in the United States, and found that women actually graduate at a higher rate than men! That is to say, more women of the correct working generation have college degrees than men!
This does not make sense to me. If more women have college degrees, and a college degree increases the chances of obtaining a leadership position, then why is it that only 15% of executive roles are held by women?
Is it something cultural that causes women to shy away from these positions, or that causes men to be chosen to fill these positions over women? If not, then what is the reason for this discrepancy?
