This past Sunday was the Super Bowl. Biggest game of the year, everyone is watching, happy times all around, right? Well, it wasn’t such a happy occasion for one man. Roland Martin, a “political contributor to CNN” has been suspended for some offensive tweets he posted during the Super Bowl. According to Reuters.com and the Washington Post Martin tweeted about David Beckham’s H&M underwear commercial, tweeting “If a dude at your Super Bowl party is hyped about David Beckham's H&M underwear ad, smack the ish out of him! #superbowl” (Reuters.com). He also tweeted about the attire one of the players when, "Who the hell was that New England Patriot they just showed in a head to toe pink suit? Oh, he needs a visit from #teamwhipdatass" (Reuters.com). Within a short amount of time, GLAAD, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, posted an online petition, with 7,500 signatures, calling for the Martin’s dismissal (Washington Post). There are also those who believe that he shouldn’t have been suspended because his comments weren’t that bad. There is also a website where you can sign a petition to end Roland Martin’s suspension. Currently, he has been suspended for an "undefined amount of time".
My questions are Do you think Martin should have been suspended for those comments, or has his right to freedom of speech been violated? Do you think CNN should bring him back or just fire him?
