Heterosexual

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, heterosexual is defined as "relating to, characterized by a tendency to direct sexual desire toward the opposite sex...or involving sexual intercourse between individuals of opposite sex". The term heterosexual can be used as either a noun or as an adjective. The noun is a person who has a sexual orientation to people of the opposite sex. The adjective is the description of a person who is sexually attracted to people of the opposite sex. Some antonyms of heterosexual would be bisexual and homosexual. Heterosexual is the term that people use to describe their sexual orientation as straight or sexually attracted to people of the opposite sex. For example heterosexual females are sexually attracted to or have sexual intercourse with males and heterosexual males are sexually attracted to or have sexual intercourse with females. This is a term that only describe who a person is sexually attracted to.
Before I looked up the definition to this word I pretty much knew what it meant. I didn't think that sexual orientation applied to who you are sexually attracted to I thought it was who you were attracted to overall, not just sexual.
