He's the new face of the perfect woman

Andrej Pejic is taking over European fashion with his androgynous looks that allow him not only to model men’s wear, but to model women’s wear as well. New York Fashion is struck by what might come from Pejic’s breakthrough into the Women’s lingerie arena as Dutch Company, Hema’s new mega push up bra model. While many are amazed by how “revolutionary” Pejic’s modeling is for the fashion industry, many more are worried about his effect on how girls and women perceive what a beautiful body is. Alex Rees, author of the New York Fashion article relays, “The shoot is already becoming controversial in the Netherlands, where, realizing this is not a woman, citizens worry the ads will send a negative message to young women on a never-ending quest to get skinnier”. NewSY also took a look on the impact Pejic may or may not have on women today as, “he even made FHM’s Sexiest Women of 2011” Along with lingerie, Pejic has model wedding dresses, and other women’s attire.

Is this a step forward to breaking gender barriers, or a step back in promoting self-esteem, and combating body-image issues for women/girls, or both?
